The public reporting burden for this collection of information, 0701-0154, is estimated to average 10 hours per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information. An NDSEG Fellowship application must be submitted electronically to qualify for consideration. Please note: All application sections, including references, must be completed before an applicant can submit the application. Applications that have not been submitted are considered incomplete and will not be reviewed. No application items will be accepted after the deadline. Please reach out to your recommenders to remind them of the deadline​​

A complete fellowship application consists of the following:

  1. A contractor provided application form including contact information, demographic information, field of study, and proposed research in relevance to the DoD;
  2. A proposed DoD sponsoring agency and research technical discipline area; Keep in mind any agency can choose to make an award based on your application.
  3. Official undergraduate transcript(s); and
  4. Three (3) contractor provided Reference Evaluation Forms that capture professional assessment of candidate by individual references.

If for any reason an application does not contain all of the required elements, it will not be reviewed. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the completeness of his or her application.

  1. Personal Info/Application Form
  2. Personal Statement- Do not reference, Your Name, School Name, Advisor Name, or anything that denotes who you are and what school you attend. Personal statement will be typed in a Form (500 words) No special formatting required -What are your short and long-term professional goals? How did these goals develop? How have you already begun to lay the foundation for these goals? How does this fellowship fit into these goals? Keep in mind personal statements are your introduction to the reviewer.
  3. Transcripts (Associate's, Bachelor's, - Upload a PDF of the official - DO NOT mail or email to ITS-JV/NDSEG. Have an official copy mailed or emailed to you and upload into the application.
  4. Research Proposal - Do not reference, Your Name, School Name, Advisor Name, or anything that denotes who you are and what school you attend (for additional information see details under research proposal). Upload your research proposal using the following file name format: 2023-RP-Initials-Abreviated Discipline (Example: “2023-RP-KYM-CHEM-ENG”). NOTE: If uploading a new file (replacing an old file) you must use a unique name each time. Ex: First file was "2023-RP-KYM-MATH" please change version 2 to "2023-RP-KYM-MATH-2", or something similar.
  5. 3 References are required, 4 can be submitted. Applicants will need to DELETE ONE reference before submission: Recommenders must complete the reference link. Separate letters on letterhead will NOT be accepted. We recommend reaching out to academic advisors, research advisors, internship supervisors, mentors, teachers, or employers. Please remind Advisors the following: Do NOT USE the UNIVERSITY's NAME; Do NOT USE the APPLICANT's NAME; or use the PROFESSOR's name in any written response to questions within the reference form, OR the applicant will be DISQUALIFIED. All references must be submitted by October31, 2022 at 11:59 PM.

Research Proposal

At no time should an Applicant reach out to the Program Officers listed under the BAAS. All questions should be directed toward ITS (ndseg@its-jv.com). Keep in mind your research should align with one or more specific topics under the Department of Defense's Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs), but you are not submitting a proposal to that announcement.
